Urology Leaders Gathered to Explore Strategies for High-Performing ASCs

LUGPA's Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Academy was held May 29-31, 2025, at the Scottsdale Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, AZ. The event brought together urology leaders and ASC stakeholders to explore the key clinical and administrative elements required to build and maintain a safe, efficient, and high-performing ambulatory surgery center. Sessions focused on topics such as staffing, regulatory compliance, and procedural best practices.

This year's program featured two learning tracks designed to support attendees at different stages of ASC development—those just beginning to explore the concept and those with established centers seeking optimization strategies.

Attendees participated in a variety of engaging sessions, including a presentation on current ASC market trends by Stephen Abresch, Director of Government Affairs at the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association; a panel on regulatory updates; and a deep dive into staffing strategies and financial performance improvement. The program also included industry-sponsored symposia, networking receptions, and open discussion forums.

In 2026, LUGPA's ASC Academy will be held April 9 - 11, 2026: in Rosemont, Illinois.

The 2024 ASC Academy took place March 14-16, 2024  
at the Disney World Swan Hotel,
Lake Buena Vista, FL

The 2024 ASC Academy featured more than 20 expert speakers, with dynamic sessions, breakout discussions, and interactive panels. Drs. Evan Goldfischer, Jeffrey Spier, and Jason Hafron opened the event, setting the stage for discussions on the economic and clinical value of ASCs. Speakers such as E. Scot Davis, Whitt Holder, and Brooke Edwards, MD, shared strategies for enhancing ASC efficiency, while rapid-fire clinical sessions covered key topics like female urology, stone disease, and BPH therapy.

Attendees also explored critical issues such as managed care contracting, revenue cycle management, and the role of robotics in ASCs. Industry-sponsored symposia and networking receptions provided additional opportunities for collaboration.
