Course Description:

Adapted from the LUGPA 2025 Global Prostate Cancer Congress (GPCC), this enduring educational activity provides practicing clinicians with comprehensive, up-to-date education on the biology, diagnosis, and management of prostate cancer across the disease continuum. The program reviews foundational mechanisms driving prostate cancer development and progression, including key genetic and molecular factors, and examines current and emerging approaches to screening, diagnosis, and risk stratification.

Through expert-led presentations and evidence-based discussions, learners will evaluate contemporary diagnostic tools such as advanced imaging modalities and biopsy techniques, and compare treatment strategies for localized, advanced, and metastatic disease. The activity also addresses practical considerations in patient care, including the management of treatment-related side effects and complications, with an emphasis on preserving quality of life.

Finally, the program explores emerging research and future directions in prostate cancer care, including advances in genetic testing, immunotherapy, radioligand therapy, and personalized medicine, as well as relevant legislative and policy considerations that may impact patient access and clinical practice. This activity is designed to support clinicians in delivering informed, patient-centered, and guideline-concordant prostate cancer care.

Learning Objectives:

After the LUGPA 2025 GPCC Enduring Program, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe the biological mechanisms and genetic factors involved in the development and progression of prostate cancer.
  2. Evaluate the current screening methods for prostate cancer, such as PSA testing and digital rectal exams, and understand their benefits and limitations.
  3. Describe the various diagnostic approaches, including imaging modalities (MRI, CT, PET scans) and biopsy techniques, as well as staging criteria for prostate cancer.
  4. Compare and contrast the various treatment options for localized and advanced prostate cancer, including surgery, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, chemotherapy, and emerging treatments.
  5. Develop strategies for managing the side effects and complications of prostate cancer treatments, including urinary incontinence, sexual dysfunction, and metabolic changes.
  6. Explore the latest research findings and future directions in prostate cancer, including advancements in genetic testing, immunotherapy, and personalized medicine. Review and appraise resources about legislation related to prostate cancer.
