LUGPA’s Boston Regional Meeting, held June 20–21 at the Westin Copley Place, brought together urologists, administrators, advanced practice providers, and key staff for a highly focused and collaborative event. True to its mission, LUGPA once again delivered a meeting that felt distinct—defined by authenticity, collegiality, and strategic depth.

The meeting opened Friday evening with a welcome reception that set a warm and engaging tone, allowing attendees to connect informally before the full program began on Saturday.

Saturday’s sessions began with welcoming remarks from Dr. Benjamin Lowentritt, who also moderated the opening session, Bridging the Gap: Building Strategic Partnerships with Hospitals. Panelists Dr. Thomas Smyth and Dr. Alon Weizer shared real-world experiences and frameworks for building hospital collaborations around call coverage, recruitment, and care coordination. This theme continued in a dedicated follow-up session later that morning, allowing for deeper dialogue and practical takeaways.

Throughout the day, attendees participated in content-rich sessions, two industry-sponsored symposia, and several opportunities for networking and informal discussion. Topics included:

  • Strategic integration of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) in hospital and call models
  • Lessons learned in avoiding pitfalls in urology practice management
  • A scientific and operational update on radioligand therapy, led by Dr. Alicia Morgans and a multidisciplinary panel
  • A compelling discussion on concierge and cash-pay services, exploring how private practices can diversify and personalize care delivery

Two industry symposia—hosted by Johnson & Johnson and Novartis—provided updates on mCSPC and mCRPC treatment strategies, offering insight into evolving clinical data and FDA approvals relevant to urologic care.

Themes and Takeaways

Feedback throughout the meeting consistently reinforced what many attendees said plainly: LUGPA is different. The tone was candid, forward-looking, and unafraid to address both opportunity and challenge. Reflections from faculty and participants underscored the following themes:

  • Balance matters: Quality of care, quality of life, and personal relationships must be prioritized equally.
  • Growth is essential: Practices must evolve or risk stagnation—“If you're not growing, you're dying.”
  • Connection over competition: Collaboration across roles and organizations fosters shared success.
  • Data and AI must be part of strategic planning, not afterthoughts.
  • Future leaders need nurturing: Cultivating new voices and perspectives today strengthens tomorrow.
  • Emotional intelligence, humility, and vulnerability emerged as recurring qualities of effective leaders.

Attendees left Boston with renewed energy, inspired not only by the practical tools offered but by the shared sense of purpose that threaded through the entire event. Whether discussing innovation, burnout, or the business of medicine, the message was clear: resilience, gratitude, and human connection remain at the heart of successful urology practices.
