HHS Announces $25.5 Billion in Phase 4 Provider Relief Funding

Sept. 10, 2021

HHS has announced a new round of Provider Relief Finding that will distribute $25.5 billion to eligible providers. Eligibility for Phase 4 payments will be based on providers’ lost revenues and increased expenditures between July 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021. 75% of the Phase 4 allocation will be calculated based on revenue losses and COVID-related expenses and 25% of the Phase 4 allocation will be put towards bonus payments that are based on the amount and type of services provided to Medicaid, CHIP, and Medicare patients. Eligible providers can apply beginning on September 29.

Additionally, HHS has released information about the methodology used to determine the payment amounts issued to providers within Phase 3 payments. Providers who believe their Phase 3 payment was not calculated correctly will have the opportunity to request reconsideration.

More information about Phase 4 distribution, including eligibility requirements and necessary documentation, and the application process, is available on the HHS website.
